Big Beautiful Abandoned Betty

UPDATE 8/5/13: Big Beautiful Betty weighed a whopping 33 lbs when she got on the scale on July 22nd.

Yesterday at her vet visit, we were told she is down to 29 lbs! That's a four pound move in the right direction. Go Betty Go!

You can adopt her through Unconditional Love Rescue.

UPDATE 8/3/13: Betty busts out of the shelter tomorrow! She is going to a wonderful foster home. After she's had some time to relax, she will be available for adoption through Unconditional Love Rescue at [email protected].
PictureYou can't resist that face!
Betty was adopted as a cute two month old puppy. At seven years young, where is she now?! She is living on borrowed time in the San Jose shelter with only a day or two left.

This darling girl has been terribly neglected; abandoned by her owners, overweight and with ear infections. Betty just needs someone to love her, help her work off a few pounds and nurse her ears back to health.

PicturePlease rescue me!
Betty is a Jack Russell terrier mix, about seven years old and weighs 33 lbs. The shelter is running out of space and she's out of time. We need a foster or permanent home desperately. If you can help, please fill out our foster application here.

Mollie & Oliver Need Your Help

7/27/2013

UPDATE - 8/2/13: Turns out Mollie and Oliver will be leaving the shelter on the same day next week to different foster homes. As soon as they are over their kitty colds, they'll be ready for adoption with St. Francis Animal Protection Society.
UPDATE - 7/31/13: Miss Mollie is busting out of the shelter very soon. Stay tuned for updates on her recovery. We still need a temporary or permanent home for Oliver!
During kitten season when shelters are overcrowded, a simple kitty cold is a deadly disease. Our local shelters do not have the resources or space to care for too many sick cats. Cat volunteers at the San Jose shelter are sick with worry about the fate of two of their beloved felines.
Picture
Mollie is an older diluted tortoiseshell who has been at the shelter since May. Torties are known for their feisty 'tortitude' attitudes; NOT this girl! Miss Mollie is one of the sweetest and friendliest cats you'll ever meet.

Mollie has contracted a kitty cold for the second time. This means she is at high risk of euthanasia. Shelter stress can severely weaken a cat's immune system and make them prone to becoming ill. Once they are placed in a loving home, they recover fast! We hope Mollie gets this chance.

Picture
Oliver, like Mollie, is also sick for the second time. He is a beautiful Maine Coon mix who is about five years old. He has more cattitude about him and would be best as an only cat. He doesn't care to share his humans.

Mollie and Oliver are in danger of being put to sleep and we do not know how much time they have left. We need to find them permanent or foster homes immediately! Interested in saving a life? Please fill out our application here.

I'm a happy, happy, happy boy!
UPDATE - We are doing a HAPPY DANCE and chasing our tails! Another same day update to share: Moses has a foster home! We will update his status soon.

I need a home.
How can you resist this gorgeous face? Moses* and his sister were found wandering as scared strays in the Evergreen area during the recent heat wave. Sadly, his sister succumbed to heat exhaustion and died. He stayed by her side until he was captured by Animal Control and taken to the San Jose shelter.
PictureSuch a pretty poser
Moses is a yellow Labrador Retriever/Husky mix with ice blue eyes. He's young - only a year old. He's absolutely traumatized in the shelter and needs a safe and caring foster home to recover from his agonizing experiences on the streets.

PictureLet's Rescue Moses!
If you can help us save this beautiful boy by providing a temporary or permanent home, please fill out our application here. We need to get him out of the shelter ASAP!

*We named Moses after the good Samaritan who contacted Animal Control to help him.

UPDATE - 7/24/13: Just look at Rocky (aka Gavin) now!

The power of a caring home makes all the difference in transforming scared shelter animals into loving pets. Rocky is doing fantastic in his foster home.

UPDATE: Same day updates are pretty rare but oh so sweet. Gavin is getting out! He has a foster home. After he's had a chance to settle in and get comfortable again, he will be available for adoption through St. Francis Animal Protection Society.
Picture
Can you imagine being killed simply because you are too scared? Gavin* is at high risk of being put to sleep. We only have the weekend to find him a temporary home and save his life.

He is a young Welsh Corgi and Cardigan mix. He was found as a stray by a nice couple who thought they were doing the best thing for him - turning Gavin into the shelter in hopes his family will find him.

The shelter holds stray animals for 72 hours giving people time to find their lost pet. No one claimed Gavin during this allotted time. He was evaluated to be put up for adoption. Unfortunately he is so terrified in the shelter environment, he was deemed 'unadoptable'. The shelter is too overcrowded to keep him and his luck has almost run out.

Picture
Time and time again, we see shy and scared animals blossom into loving pets once they are in a home. You can save Gavin by providing him a calm, caring foster home. Interested? Fill out our application here.

Did you know? If you find a stray animal, you can have it documented in the shelter's system and foster it in your own home. This gives the animal a better chance of being reunited with its family - a calmer environment without a deadline.

*This dog is a stray; we named him Gavin.

a tree. K-i-s-s-i-n-g...  Not exactly. These two darling Cocker Spaniels are sitting at the San Jose shelter and need a foster home(s) urgently.
We think sweetheart Sammy is about three or four years old. Sammy likes to play with his ball!

Sweetheart Sady is probably around six or seven years of age. She was used as a breeding machine and abandoned when she was no longer in her prime. She deserves a better life!

Sammy and Sady did not come in to the shelter together and do not need to be fostered together. However, they can be!

Sweet, sweet Sady
If you have questions about these two, please contact Janet at [email protected]. If you are interested in providing a temporary or permanent home to one or both dogs,  fill out our application here.

Cockers have been one of the most popular breeds since as far back as the 1880's and are known for their intelligence and gentleness. They thrive on being part of the family. Can you make Sammy and Sady a part of yours?

UPDATE: 7/15/13 - Yesterday this dog's owner reclaimed him from the San Jose shelter. He is back in his own home. Please make sure your pets are micro-chipped and that your contact information is up to date! This cute little guy almost lost his life because he is not micro-chipped.
UPDATE: 7/14/13 - We are so happy to report that our Duff has a fantastic foster home lined up for him! He will be available soon through Furry Friends Rescue.
PictureDarlin' Duff
Duff (a name that we gave him) is a sweet Scotty mix who was picked up as a stray in Cupertino. The shelter is extremely overcrowded and he needs a foster home.

Duff doesn't have much time left!

He dreams of good food, an occasional treat and watching summer reruns with his new person!

Duff could use a good bath, some TLC and a temporary home to save his life. He is happy to share his home with other small dogs but unknown about cats.

Fostering an animal in need saves their life. Apply here today!
