UPDATE: 9/19/13 - Rosie's life is about to get a whole lot better. She has a foster home and will be leaving the shelter soon. Today was a good day for her and her puppy. Roscoe was adopted this afternoon.
PictureSave Rosie!
Rosie* has had a hard life. Abused, neglected, starved and now a few days away from scheduled euthanasia. She has been at the San Jose shelter since the end of August and her time is almost up. She does not qualify for adoption due to a mild heart murmur.

PictureRosie misses her puppy, Roscoe
She has been miserably failed by her humans. While she is sad, she remains sweet. She is a boxer mix about four years young. She is good with other dogs, just a little submissive. Rosie deserves a loving, patient home so she can regain her trust in people, put on some weight and begin to flourish.

You can help us save this innocent soul by giving her a temporary or permanent home. Fill out our foster application here. If you can not foster her, you can help by sharing her story.

The final indignity for this girl is that she's separated from her puppy. Roscoe made it to adoptions and is waiting for his forever home. You can check out Roscoe here. Rosie was not so lucky.

*We have named her Rosie - hoping that is what her future will be.

UPDATE - 9/19/13: Look who is luxuriating in her foster home after finishing dinner. It's Miss Maggie Mae!

Isn't it great to see her in a home and not in that ugly stainless steel cage?

UPDATE - 9/15/13: Maggie won't be alone much longer. She's got a foster home; Maggie will say 'Sayonara!' to the shelter very soon. Stay tuned for updates on when she will be available to adopt.

Maggie Mae is.

She is sixteen years old and now stuck in a steel cage at the San Jose shelter. Her owner had to give her up because her rental does not allow pets.

So, Maggie Mae is missing a couple of teeth. The shelter feels that makes her unadoptable and gave her a deadline. We think she is a healthy girl and acts younger than sixteen!

Maggie Mae is a large, diluted tortoise shell kitty who rubs up against her cage to get closer to you. She makes 'happy feet' and only wants to be loved on.  Maggie is so super sweet, she's even good around toddlers: a rare trait for a cat!

The shelter and her owner seemed to have given up on her! Help us save Maggie Mae today by giving her a temporary or permanent home.

Miss Maggie Mae's gotta whole lotta love left to give!

UPDATE: 10/4/13 - Hatchi was rescued today!
UPDATE: 9/19/13 - Gorda now known as Ginger, has a foster home! We are still looking for a place for Hatchi. Please continue to share him. More to come!

These are the faces of abuse and neglect.

You can't tell from their beauty but these are the faces of neglected and abused dogs.

Gorda and Hatchi lived in a back yard and were not let into the house. Gorda learned to jump fences so she was tethered. She 'lived' on a cement slab with no shelter. Hatchi had it mildly better: he got to roam free in the yard and had access to a lean-to type dog house. When found by animal control, both dogs' bowls were low with dirty water. Their owner only wanted them as breeding machines and admitted to taking his anger out on Gorda.

After all they have been through, they do not hold it against people. Although scared in the shelter, they are friendly dogs. Gorda and Hatchi do not need to be fostered together (although that would be great).
If you can provide a temporary or permanent home for one or both dogs, please fill out our foster application here. This gorgeous boyfriend and girlfriend have a deadline and need to get out of the shelter urgently.
