If everyone who was looking for a new pet started their search at their local animal shelter, we would not be facing the problem we are today.
It is estimated that each year about 1 million companion animals enter shelters throughout the state of California and HALF of these animals are euthanized. This astonishing statistic is due to:
People abandoning their pets because of the mortgage and unemployment crisis
Accidental litters from unaltered pets
Over-breeding of dogs and cats, and other companion animals
Stray dogs and cats reproducing
Companion animals end up at a shelter due to no fault of their own, but rather they are victims of circumstances. We feel it is our obligation to help promote these wonderful pets who don't have a voice of their own.

Why Is San Jose Special?
Not only does San Jose have many animal welfare organizations serving our area, but our community is diverse, educated and driven. As the capital of the Silicon Valley, we are hoping that the unique combination of resources and passion can make San Jose a model of animal welfare awareness. We are not there yet: too many homeless animals are still being needlessly euthanized in our community. With the community's awareness and support, we can change this!
